Following the success of the Community Owned Renewable Energy Expert panel discussion held as part of National Science Week, SWV Inc arranged a further meeting which was held on Saturday 25th August 2018. The enthusiasm for CORE continued with 31 people gathering over afternoon tea at the Uniting Church Hall where they discussed their visions for the energy generation in the shire in the next 20 years. Visions like “a carbon neutral town, community energy security, pride of ownership, access to all and reinvesting in community. There was also a great range of project ideas envisioned. This ranged from bulk buy & sell solar concepts, bio-energy using waste from the tip and timber mills to pumped hydro concepts. Some of the district’s past energy generation was used as inspiration such as the hydro plant on the Williams River at the old butter factory in Dungog that was used to create electricity in the 1930s. Further workshops are planned.
